Woman Escapes Attempted Abduction Near Virginia Park, Police Say (Developing)

Police in Alexandria are pulling out all the stops as they look to track down a man who attempted to abduct a woman near an area park.

Officers were called to Tarleton Park at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday night in the area of South Gordon Street and Wheeler Avenue, when a man attempted to take a woman.

According to the Alexandria Police Department, the suspect, described as a White man with brown hair, wearing a blue sweatshirt and camouflage shorts, attempted to pull the woman into a wooded area, though she was able to escape.

In response, the department established a perimeter in the area, K9 units were deployed, and a helicopter was called in to assist with search efforts.

The incident remains under investigation. More information is expected to be released.
